Sanyo prototype enters race to marry digital TVs, cell phones

published On the heels of NEC’s demonstration of a prototype G3 cellular phone with built-in digital TV tuner, Sanyo has unveiled a prototype of a combo cell phone, digital television receiver and video recorder.
The Sanyo CDMA2000 prototype, shown for the first time Aug. 8, has a one segment terrestrial digital TV receiver built-in with multiple antennas built into the phone to ensure quality reception.
Japan intends to begin terrestrial digital television transmissions in Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya in December.
