Sarasota's Channel 6 Goes Digital with Omneon Spectrum
Six News Now (SNN), a Sarasota news channel, recently deployed a new Omneon Spectrum media server in a tapeless news environment.
SNN is using the new server system alongside Dalet Digital Media Systems DaletPlus News Suite. Together, the systems enable tightly integrated edit, ingest, playout and archiving from a single media server.
Omneon's server system is built on an open architecture that allows it to support third-party applications for control and transmission, media management, archiving and collaborative production, so news media can be shared easily across users and applications. The move to a digital workflow could help open the door for SNN to provide its news content to handheld devices.
SNN's newsroom is integrated with the Sarasota Herald-Tribune, which is owned by the New York Times Co. The cable news station will be moving its tapeless broadcast operations to a new facility later this year.
