Satellite television in UK combines user-created Web television with ads

British satellite television is broadcasting user-created content with ads originating from the Web. That unusual combination is happening as Fame TV, a new channel available on British Sky Broadcasting’s satellite service, has partnered with Revver to deliver the Web site’s content.

Fame TV will choose which videos to debut from a selection of user-created content provided by Revver. Revver differs from services like YouTube by pairing user-generated videos with ad content based on relevancy and then sharing ad revenue with content owners.

On Fame TV, revenue is generated each time the channel’s viewers vote for their favorite video via text message. That income is split 50-50 with Revver. Revver will then give 50 percent of what it receives per video to the creator of the video. Fame TV charges a fee of 95 cents per vote.

Launched this month, Fame TV is available in more than 8 million British and Irish homes. In addition to content provided by Revver, the channel also accepts user-generated content directly via its own Web site.
