Satellite Update
The only application in last Friday's FCC Report SAT-00459 was from DirecTV Enterprises, LLC, requesting modification of its authorization to relocate Ka-band satellite SPACEWAY 1 from 102.800 degrees west longitude to 102.885 degrees WL.
The SPACEWAY 1 application was listed as granted in FCC Report SAT-00458. DirecTV was given a 60-day authorization, starting July 16, 2007, to conduct telemetry, tracking and command operations necessary to relocate the satellite from 102.8 degrees WL to 102.885 degrees WL, and to operate at that location. The FCC also authorized operation of the Ka-band payload using 18.3 to 18.8 GHz and 19.7 to 20.2 GHz for downlinks, and 28.35 to 28.60 GHz and 29.25 to 30.00 GHz for uplinks on a non-interference basis.
As a result of a pro forma change in the ownership of Intelsat Corp., a 50 percent owner in Horizons Satellite LLC, Horizon requested the FCC issue a Public Notice requesting comment on whether the change on ownership affected any of the considerations Horizon made when the original operator was allow to enter the U.S. market and Horizon 1 was included in the FCC's Permitted Space Station List. The notification application was placed on public notice for comment on Jan. 12, 2007, and the FCC did not receive any comments on it. As a result, the FCC will modify its records to reflect the continuance of Horizon 1's listing on the Permitted Space Station List.
ViaSat Inc. received authorizations to launch two satellites, VIASAT-KA and VIASAT-KA1. Both satellites were authorized to provide fixed satellite services in the 18.3-18.8 GHz, 19.7-20.2 GHz, 28.25-28.6 GHz and 29.25-30.0 GHz frequency bands. VIASAT-KA is authorized at 115.2 degrees WL and VIASAT-KA1 at 77.3 degrees WL.
