The Society of Broadcast Engineers (SBE) will hold its next webcast RF safety course Oct. 25, from 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. EST, in nine locations around the country.
The course is intended for station personnel who need a better understanding of RF safety and regulatory issues. Richard Strickland of RF Solutions will teach the course, which the SBE has approved for one SBE recertification credit.
The course will explain the biological effects of RF radiation and the differences between RF and ionizing radiation. It also will cover what must be done to comply with FCC and Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations. Hazards in a variety of workplaces, including at the transmitter site, around satellite newsgathering (SNG) and electronic newsgathering (ENG) vehicles and remote operations, will be covered.
Participants will receive a handout via e-mail before Oct. 25. After completing the course, they will receive a certificate of completion from the SBE.
