Scientific-Atlanta product gains DOCSIS 1.1 qualification
Scientific-Atlanta's Prisma G10 CMTS gained its DOCSIS 1.1 Qualification from CableLabs on June 20.
The DOCSIS 1.1 qualification paves the way for advanced IP-based services for cable operators.
DOCSIS 1.1 services offer improvements over DOCSIS 1.0 services in four areas: quality of service, data fragmentation, security and reverse-path throughput.
The Prisma G10 CMTS, developed by Juniper Networks, addresses the operators' needs to offer new, advanced IP-based services, such as VoIP (Voice over IP)or tiered high speed data, while meeting the requirements of an installed base of cable modems where traffic and penetration growth is beginning to exceed current CMTS capacity.
The Prisma G10 CMTS offers the intelligent management and diagnostic features required for advanced services optimization, resiliency and assurance, while its robust RF performance enables more bandwidth and less cost per cable modem.
It delivers these key benefits to cable operators who need to maximize cable modem service over existing bandwidth:
- DOCSIS 1.1 Qualified - ready to handle advanced IP-based services - VoIP, SLA and more
- Improved RF Performance - enables the use of 16QAM when others can only use QPSK in the upstream; this doubles the throughput potential of existing bandwidth and saves money on new equipment.
- Multiple Channels per Upstream - equips operators to add new channels without costly and service-interrupting node re-combining or splitting.
- Economical Deployment - the processing capability of each blade enables deployment with less equipment and less cost, typically a 60 to 75 percent savings over non-Scientific-Atlanta CMTS offerings.
