Scripps Goes Live In HD With OmniBus
Scripps Networks has taken its Great American Country (GAC), HGTV HD, and Food Network HD channels live on its new OmniBus Systems Colossus automation package, which was recently installed at the network's Knoxville, Tenn., broadcast headquarters. Scripps launched HGTV HD in April, GAC in the middle of June, and Food Network HD on June 30, and the network plans to shift the rest of its seven networks onto OmniBus automation by the close of 2006.
"Once all of our channels are running on OmniBus automation, we expect to see a significant streamlining of our overall operations, both in terms of operations workflow and technical workflow," said John Ajamie, Scripps Networks senior vice president of broadcast operations and maintenance engineering. "OmniBus has provided valuable support in the launch of our first three channels on the system. We look forward to a successful rollout of all our services on the OmniBus automation architecture."
The OmniBus automation system installed at Scripps controls a video server system and a hierarchical storage management (HSM) archiving system. In addition to facilitating the migration and launch of the network's existing and new channels, both SD and HD, the OmniBus-based playout infrastructure provides flexibility and scalability to accommodate future expansion of Scripps' network offerings.
