Seattle-area church produces pastor’s message in HD

Mars Hill Church in the metropolitan Seattle area has chosen the Snell & Wilcox Kahuna SD/HD multiformat production switcher to anchor its transition to HD production.

The production switcher is used to enhance Sunday worship services and streamline delivery of a live HD presentation of the pastor's message to six other congregations throughout the Puget Sound area. Together, the seven campuses have a combined congregation of more than 6000 people.

For the main Sunday service, which is shot in HD, Mars Hill's production engineers use the Kahuna to mix in additional feeds from SD sources, such as cameras, character generators and presentation software, including the pastor’s talking points displayed on a 60in LCD screen.

The switcher’s use of the company’s FormatFusion technology enables the production engineers to seamlessly integrate the SD content into the HD production.

The result is streamed to six other campuses with a 15-minute delay to enable congregations to incorporate the sermon into their individual services. The church plans to extend the Kahuna with an auxiliary panel that can be operated by a second engineer to allow it to switch content for other elements of the worship service such as visual and lighting effects.
