SES Americom Launches HD SNG Neighborhood
SES Americom has rolled out a new hi-def satellite newsgathering service delivered over AMC-5 and AMC-6. The so-called "HD SNG neighborhood" enables remote telephone calling capabilities, Internet access, and communication with the broadcaster's home-based LAN and studio.
The service uses SkySwitch IP, an alternative to dedicated bandwidth that features ND SatCom's SkyWAN and iDirect's 7000 series satellite router-based IP connectivity.
"The launch of SES Americom's HD SNG neighborhood coincides with our increasing capital investment in additional HD equipment and new HD SNG units through 2007," said Paul Edwards, vice president of transportables and production services for Atlanta-based Crawford Communications, a video production and distribution company that's worked with Princeton, N.J.-based SES Americom for several years.
Expansion is already in the works with AMC-21, which is scheduled for launch in the second quarter of 2008.
