The Altix 3000 family of servers combine SGI's supercomputing architecture with Intel Itanium 2 processors and the Linux operating system. The Altix 3000 scales up to 64 processors within each single-Linux-image node, and is the first cluster of any variety to allow global shared memory access across nodes.
The system can be configured with several terabytes of memory. And every memory module can be shared among every processor node in the configuration, maximizing the efficient use of all available memory, all the time.
Under the banner "Scaling Linux to New Altitudes," SGI unveiled the SGI Altix 3000 in its world debut at the LinuxWorld conference in New York City.
