Shining Technology ships solid-state CitiDISK
Shining Technology, a provider of tapeless recording and conversion hardware for the broadcast market, has introduced the CitiDISK SSD, a tiny, lightweight flash-based disk for digital video recording.
Weighing 6oz, CitiDISK SSD is the company’s first flash-based video recorder. The battery-operated (at least three-hour internal and six-hour external) CitiDISK SSD attaches to virtually any FireWire-enabled DV or HDV video camera. It has no moving parts, uses little power and works well at high altitudes.
Shining said the device’s tapeless workflow could save videographers and editors from having to digitize videotapes. Users record footage directly to digital video formats and access it immediately for editing. It is compatible with many widely used nonlinear editing software packages, including those from Apple (Final Cut Pro), Avid (Media Composer), Adobe (Premiere Pro), Grass Valley (EDIUS), Matrox and Sony (Vegas).
The CitiDISK SSD is currently shipping with a storage capacity of 32GB (yielding up to 140 minutes recording time). Higher capacity models will be announced in the future.
