Sinclair’s KSMO-TV goes tapeless with Sundance
KSMO-TV, a WB affiliate in Kansas City owned by Sinclair Broadcasting Group, has converted to tapeless operation with the help of Sundance Digital’s FastBreak Automation.
Sundance Digital's FastBreak Automation integrates SQL-based database management with frame-accurate server, tape transport and switcher/router control for complete command of the broadcast process.
The station worked with systems integrator Professional Video Supply and Sundance Digital to configure and install a FastBreak Automation system capable of managing on-air operations, including local and network programs and commercials. The station moved directly to digital media management from a legacy analog playback system.
KSMO-TV’s FastBreak Automation system controls a Grass Valley MC2100 master control switcher that drives a Leitch Technology video server. Also included in the KSMO-TV FastBreak setup is Sundance Digital’s Time-Liner, an event sequencing software that streamlines the recording of satellite feeds.
The station has also integrated Encoda’s Columbine “Closed Loop” Traffic and Billing system into FastBreak. Sundance provided a custom software interface for traffic log imports and “as-run” file reconciliation. Together, FastBreak and Columbine function as a “check and balance” system to monitor traffic requests, interpret actual playlist results, and furnish the station with essential documentation.
