Singapore: Samsung Introduces Integrated 1080p
Samsung Electronics has unveiled what it says is the industry's first integrated digital TV set (IDTV) with an internal MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) HD decoder and DVB-T tuner.
The MPEG-4 decoder allows HD images to be streamed through terrestrial broadcast services with a codec that will be adopted by MediaCorp, according to Hardware Zone.
The new unit (model IDTV M8) has a built-in MPEG-4 tuner, Samsung said, which would eliminate some wiring and the use of a set-top box. The scheme also permits navigation of channels from a single remote, and the best available picture quality is pre-set at the factory, Samsung said. The integrated unit will be shipped first to Asia. Availability elsewhere was not noted.
