Snell & Wilcox highlights metadata-friendliness at IBC
At IBC2003, Snell & Wilcox will focus on metadata and its practical implementation for ingest, conversion, restoration, switching, infrastructure, control and management in the digital television facility.
The company will demonstrate how metadata generation, handling and management are incorporated into Snell & Wilcox products across the board. The company was closely involved in the development of the AAF and MXF open standard file formats and will show how they and partners are working to bring the benefits of file transfer and metadata generation to the end-user.
Feature demonstrations of the company’s Mastering and Re-purposing System will emphasize ingest-for-playout and ingest-for-archiving. In the latter case, the Archangel Ph.C product will showcase the real-time restoration for the source material before ingest.
Designed for file-based content creation, storage, quality control and re-purposing, the system, whose benefits are detailed in a staged presentation, includes the company’s Ingest Station mastering encoder, Mosalina quality control software and RepoDepot file transcoder.
Other new technologies, to be shown for the first time at IBC, include DEFTplus, an option to the company's benchmark Alchemist Platinum Ph.C standards converter. DEFTplus allows program producers, for the first time, to seamlessly convert standard definition material to 24p and integrate standard and high definition material within the same program—all in a single pass. Another new option for Alchemist is an HD output.
Ukon is a universal format conversion platform designed for use in broadcast, post and production where pictures need to be converted in any direction between SD and HD environments. Ukon can deliver conversions and handle practical production issues such as aspect ratio conversion, audio, time-code integrity and 3:2 pull-down.
New SwitchPack series switchers offer a choice of 4, 8 and 16 inputs in compact (1RU) units. Designed for live broadcast and post-production environments, these standard definition switchers are were designed convenience and cost-effectiveness.
