‘Snow White’ Dwarfs others in Blu-ray Top 10 Sales
Even Grumpy may be pleased to hear that Snow White’s latest reincarnation has shot straight to the top of the Blu-ray Top 10 chart in its first week of release.
“Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” managed to take out an assortment of wolverines, monsters, aliens, wizards, superheroes, knights, cavemen and a chainsaw killer to pull this off. The classic hand-drawn film was the first feature-length animated movie produced by Walt Disney (or anyone else, for that matter). He reportedly staked the future of his fledging company on its potential success. Disney guessed right on his 1937 gamble, which was based on a Brothers Grimm fairytale, and it became the first big step in the eventual Disney empire.
At the same time, half of the top titles belong to Warner Brothers.
According to Rentrak, the “Top 10” Blu-ray title sales for the week ending Oct. 10 are:
- “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” (Disney)
- “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” (20th Century Fox)
- “Monsters vs. Aliens” (Paramount)
- “Trick ‘r Treat” (Warner Bro.)
- “Wizard of Oz: 70th Anniversary Edition” (Warner Bro.)
- “Year One” (Sony Pictures)
- “Superman/Batman: Public Enemies” (Warner Bro.)
- “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” 2003 (Warner Bro.)
- “Bones: Season 4” (20th Century Fox)
- “The Dark Knight” (Warner Bro.)
