Some Holiday HD Disc Deals Linger
As the holiday number crunchers make ready with their sales figures for HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc products and package content (mostly movies and games) for the just-concluded holiday season, various big-box stores from Wal-Mart to Circuit City (and retailer Amazon.com) continued offering various sales come-ons.
Best Buy, for example, has been offering a “buy two, get one free” deal on HD DVD titles that was set to continue at least through this Saturday (Dec. 29). While the big-boxer only offers a couple of hundred HD DVD (and Blu-ray Disc) tiles at any given time—which is dwarfed by the several thousand standard DVD titles it carries—virtually all of its HD DVD packaged content did qualify for the every-third-is-disc-free promotion.
“The Bourne Ultimatum,” “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” and “Transformers” are included in the eligible HD DVD titles in the sale, which is being conducted both in-store and online. Best Buy also is waiving shipping fees for all HD DVD and Blu-ray titles ordered during the sale.
