Sony Launches Green HDTV
Sony has a new 32-inch LCD HDTV it claims is gentler on the planet, consuming one-third less energy than comparable models.
At a press event in Tokyo this week, Sony called the new Bravia KDL-32JE1 a “green” option, consuming about as little 82 W, versus 125 W or more for a regular model.
Sony said the energy savings came from a brighter back light and better filtering that delivers light more efficiently.
The set will be available in Japan at the end of July, with no North American rollout announced. It will cost 150,000 yen (about $1,400), compared to just 10,000 yen (about $90) for a similar 32-inch Bravia.
The 1366x768 set also includes recycled parts.
