Sony Opts Out of IBC
TOKYO: Sony will not exhibit at IBC this year. Instead, the equipment vendor will initiate what it’s calling the “Star Programme,” comprised of more than 250 events across Western and Eastern Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
The Star Programme will feature tutorials, “customer-led workshops” and interactive showcases, Sony said. Specifically, there will be eight customer experience events across the region, presented by Sony Professional its partners. Africa, the CIS and the Middle East will be targeted via a series of events dubbed “Starlite.” A Star road show featuring product demonstrations will be launched across Europe, and EXperience training workshops will continue.
According to Sony’s announcement, “The events will be complemented by a number of year-round initiatives that give Sony’s customers access to Sony’s expertise, solutions and support, including the launch of a new digital TV channel, “b.link”, which provides targeted video content to the Sony Specialist Dealers network.”
The idea for Star was born of Sony’s EXperience campaign, a series of tutorial and training sessions focused on Sony’s EX line of broadcast camcorders. Sony said more than 5,000 individuals across Europe registered for EXperience. -- Deborah D. McAdams
