South Dakota PTV Taps SeaChange HD/SD Systems
Broadcast systems from SeaChange International are being used for delivery of HD and SD content at South Dakota Public Broadcasting, a statewide network member of PBS based in Vermillion that is currently building out its digital tapeless infrastructure.
SDPB has been airing two SD feeds using SeaChange’s Broadcast MediaCluster. Recently is added a Broadcast MediaLibrary/MediaClient play-to-air platform in order to handle its HD signal. The platform’s backward-compatible design allowed SDPB to integrate it with the broadcaster’s existing MediaCluster unit. The platform is driven in tandem with an automation system from Sundance Digital.
SeaChange said about 100 stations worldwide have deployed its platform, which basically consists of its MediaLibrary servers, MediaClient software codecs, and third-party content preparation tools. Operators can store (and exchange) video files in a standard MXF format without generation loss, according to the company. Within the public TV system, about 40 PBS member stations are currently running SeaChange broadcast systems.
SeaChange’s next-gen systems will be on display at the NAB Show (booth SU12011) April 14-17 (exhibit hall dates) in Las Vegas.
