Sprint-Nextel, industry reach two milestones on path to 2GHz plan completion
All TV stations in the northeastern United States participating in the Broadcast Auxiliary Service (BAS) 2GHz relocation project have submitted their microwave equipment inventories, according to Sprint-Nextel.
Submission of equipment inventories is a critical step in the process that will see the nation’s BAS licensees transition to 12MHz-wide digital channels.
Sprint-Nextel also announced that 2GHz relocation kickoffs in all regions of the country have occurred with the start of the process in Duluth, MN. With the Duluth kickoff, the first phase of the 2GHz relocation project is complete, the company announced.
Sprint-Nextel and BAS licensees are operating under an FCC-mandated Sept. 2007 deadline to complete the relocation of BAS Channel 1 through 7 to operate on 12MHz digital channels between 2025MHz and 2110MHz.
