Dish Network and its EchoStar subsidiary sought to overturn a federal appeals court decision upholding a $74 million jury award to TiVo.
The U.S. Supreme Court last week rejected Dish Network’s appeal of a patent-infringement ruling that may force the company to shut down its digital video recording service and pay TiVo hundreds of millions of dollars.
EchoStar and its Dish Network subsidiary sought to overturn a federal appeals court decision upholding a $74 million jury award to TiVo. The justices made no comment in leaving intact the lower court ruling.
EchoStar said after the ruling it would pay $104 million to TiVo to cover the jury award plus interest. A federal judge is considering TiVo’s bid for $220 million more and an order that would force Dish to halt DVR service.
