Tallest Tower Coming to Tokyo
The Shin-Tokyo Tower Co. has unveiled its design for the new radio and television tower for Tokyo.
Due for completion in spring 2011 — which coincides with the completion of the transition from analogue broadcasting to digital — the 610-meter-tall concrete-and-steel tower in the Sumida–Taito region of Tokyo will be the tallest free-standing antenna structure in East Asia. Construction estimates for the tower are in the range of ¥50 billion.
The structure, which is being referred to both as the Sumida Tower and the New Tokyo Tower, will host digital radio and television signals for Tokyo, along with mobile telephone and multimedia signals.
