TANDBERG Television highlighted its IBC presentation with a new MPEG-2 real-time encoder and integrated management system for IP/ATM broadcaster scheduling.
The E5770 squeezes more “broadcast quality” channels in to a single 36MHz transponder, achieving a 40 percent saving over a fixed bandwidth encoding system.
The company launched the TANDBERG E5770, a high performance, low bit-rate real-time MPEG-2 encoder for multichannel systems. The new multi-pass encoder was been designed for DTH satellite and terrestrial multichannel TV systems where compression efficiency is essential to maximize the number of TV channels.
The E5770, TANDBERG said, provides significant opportunities for satellite DTH operators to increase revenue by enabling additional services to be introduced into existing transponder space. By working with TANDBERG's Reflex (statistical multiplexing), the E5770 squeezes more “broadcast quality” channels in to a single 36MHz transponder, achieving a 40 percent saving over a fixed bandwidth encoding system. The E5770 achieves this by minimizing the total bit-rate through a multi-pass pre-processing technique that constantly optimizes bit-rate allocation for critical scenes.
The company also enhanced its Telco system management solution, Cortex, with ScheduALL production and operations management software. This addition brings a new level of management, scheduling, and bandwidth control of telecom networks and will be useful in production environments for news, sports and live event transmission. ScheduALL offers both graphical control of transmission path scheduling and dynamic business management tools.
