TANDBERG Television to acquire Zetools, Internet TV publishing platform
Looking to help customers deliver digital video over the Internet to PCs and to the TV via a special set top box, TANDBERG Television has signed a definitive merger agreement to acquire Zetools Inc., a Los Angeles-based developer of software that enables such functionality. The deal should be completed by Q3 of this year, although no financial details were available.
Since 2001, Zetools has built a thriving customer base of leading media companies, including AOL, NBC Universal, MTV Networks and Viacom. By incorporating its on-demand and interactive technologies with Zetools’ award-winning Internet TV software, TANDBERG Television said it would increase its ability to enable the publishing and distribution of video content across any platform, to any digital device.
TANDBERG said Zetools’ publishing and management applications simplify the process of creating multi-platform portals, allowing content providers to reach the maximum number of viewers. With Zetools’ MediaModeler, users can automate the formatting, management, programming and publishing of interactive and on-demand video.
Richard Cardran, co-founder and vice president of product development at Zetools, said the combination of Zetools software and TANDBERG Television’s on-demand, interactive systems and asset management solutions will be beneficial to both companies.
