Terayon and NCUBE to Demo HDTV Ad Insertion
Broadband systems provider Terayon Communications Systems and nCUBE, a supplier of on-demand media and digital advertising, will demonstrate their HD ad insertion system at several upcoming cable events. The system is based on Digital Program Insertion (DPI) standards from the SCTE.
The HD ad insertion system is composed of Terayon's DM 6400 Network CherryPicker and nCUBE's DPI Premium System, which stores advertisements in a digital format. When signaled, DPI Premium delivers the ad to the CherryPicker, which synchronizes the bit rate of the ad with the bit rate of the program and then "splices" the ad into the program.
The DPI standards, were originally created to let cable operators insert SD digital ads into SD programming, and are now being applied to the HD insertion system for HDTV.
