Thales Broadcast & Multimedia CEO Jerry Chase accepts the company’s third Emmy for technical achievement. Thales earned the award this year for its development of DAP -digital modulator adaptive pre-correction- technology for ATSC 8-VSB digital transmitter systems.
The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has awarded an Emmy for Technical and Engineering Excellence to Thales Broadcast & Multimedia for its development of DAP - digital modulator adaptive pre-correction- technology for ATSC 8-VSB digital transmitter systems.
This is the third Emmy the company has received for technical achievement. The Academy also recognized Thales in 1989 for its Klystron tube and transmitter, and for its MPEG test solutions in 1999.
Digital Adaptive Pre-Correction (DAP) technology lets Thales provide an exciter system that yields optimum performance from digital TV (DTV) amplifier technologies. DAP, which reduces the set up time associated with manual correction systems, guarantees the quality of the broadcast signal and consequently the coverage, as well as the out-of-band product (shoulders) and the protection of analog TV in the adjacent channel.
The initial research for a Digital Adaptive Pre-Correction began as early as 1994 to face technical requirements of various digital video and audio transmission standards as well as solid state and tube-based transmitter technologies. In April 1996, the concept of the DAP system was displayed and discussed by Thales engineers at the NAB convention. Since this early introduction DAP has been included with all digital transmitters from Thales.
