The Cable Show: SES Americom Adds QVC HD
Satellite firm SES Americom is adding shopping network QVC HD to its line-up of HD channels as the first cable home retailer to offer HD programming through SES Americom’s HD-Prime platform.
QVC believes that offering many of its goods in the finer detail offered by HD will enhance its products’ allure and thus increase sales, especially with an already-established cable brand such as QVC backing it. QVC HD will be fed via SES’s AMC-11 satellite.
SES Americom, the North American arm of the international SES group (which currently runs a fleet of 38 satellites in 25 orbital positions globally) is adding QVC to a growing distribution list of HD programmers—which also includes the HD feeds of A&E, Discovery Channel, MTV Networks, NBC Universal, PBS and Scripps.
