Irdeto has signed an agreement to provide 2 million smart cards with China’s Jilin Provincial Network. The agreement will support the cable TV operator’s digital migration project. It is the largest deal to date for Irdeto.

Pace Micro agrees to purchase Philips Electronics STB business
Pace Micro Technology said Dec. 19 it has entered into a conditional agreement to acquire the set-top box and connectivity solutions business of Royal Philips Electronics .
The Philips STB and CS Business employs approximately 335 staff predominantly based in France and is a leading designer and supplier of a range of digital TV products including satellite, cable, terrestrial and IPTV set-top box products.

Infostrada TV launches with Microsoft Mediaroom platform
Wind, an integrated communication services operator has selected the Microsoft Mediaroom platform and Alcatel-Lucent’s triple play solutions to deliver its commercial IPTV offering, Infostrada TV, to its customers across Italy.
Using the Microsoft Mediaroom multimedia and IPTV platform, Wind's new IPTV service provides Italian consumers with a new generation of personalized and connected TV experiences. The service launched late last week.
IPTV World Forum announces speakers
IPTV World Forum in London March 12-14 will feature 400 speakers from the telecom, cable, satellite and mobile industries, discussing the latest IPTV developments and issues facing the market, event organizer Junction said last week.

RingNett turns to Envivio for MPEG-4 AVC encoding solution
Norwegian ISP RingNett AS will use the Envivio Convergence Generation headend to enable the roll out of an IPTV service across its ADSL2+ infrastructure.
RingNett’s Digital-TV service is already available to test customers subscribing to its optical fiber-based GPON high-speed Internet delivery service. By also supporting an Envivio MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) encoding platform, RingNett can offer the same IPTV content both over xDSL (ADSL2+ and VDSL2) and FTTx (GPON and Active Ethernet).

Omneon said Dec. 13 it has acquired Castify Networks, a provider of software-based solutions for managing the distribution of digital content over the Internet and private Intranets.
