The YES Network sounds good with Calrec Sigma console

The YES Network, home of baseball’s New York Yankees and basketball’s New Jersey Nets, has installed a Calrec Sigma audio console as part of a recently completed HD renovation of YES Network’s 2500sq-ft control room at its broadcast center.

The new studio facilities, located within the Ascent Media compound in Stamford, CT, are primarily used for live pre- and post-game shows and for simulcast of a live radio program, WFAN’s “Mike and the Mad Dog” show. These productions involve multiple instant replays and require many microphones and remote feeds, adding up to thousands of cues for the Sigma to handle.

The Calrec Sigma board at the YES Network includes Bluefin HDSP technology, which allows all of the signal processing for the console to be performed on a single card. Sigma with Bluefin provides 320 channel processing paths that can be configured for up to 52 full 5.1 surround channels. Channel capacity is enhanced by a buss structure that includes 20 auxiliaries and 48 tracks. In addition, the system provides 19.6 minutes of audio delay made up of 432 elements of up to 2.73s that can be inserted in the signal paths to compensate for the synchronization problems endemic to mixed-format HD/SD production.
