Continuing to create new market opportunities by leveraging its research and development investments, Thomson announced products and standards efforts that will make digital technologies more broadly accessible and affordable for broadcasters, TV production and film professionals and consumers.
For broadcasters, one of Thomson's most important announcements was the availability of production packages that break the 60,000 Euro price barrier.
Called the Grass Valley TV Station in a Kit Series, these complete solutions for studio/outside broadcast and news production feature Grass Valley digital cameras, network attached storage (NAS) systems, intelligent video digital recorders (iVDRs), switchers, routers, nonlinear editors, automated news playback systems and modular devices.
Thomson also announced the new Concerto 64 routing switcher, which is ideally suited for mobile production trucks, sports stadiums and professional video facilities. The Concerto 64 system provides 32x32 multi-format functionality in about half the rack units of the classic Concerto Series system. The Concerto 64 routing switch can expand to a 64x64 configuration with the addition of two boards. It supports analog stereo audio, analog video, SD video, HD video, AES/EBU digital audio and port data.
For telcos looking to expand their broadband capabilities -and consumers wanting a greater variety of entertainment choices- Thomson previewed its latest-generation television set-top box, the IP901. The new box, a sleekly designed ultra-compact unit, delivers a wide range of home entertainment and broadband services to consumers via digital subscriber line (DSL) connections at a dramatically lower cost than its predecessor. The box enables video on demand, audio channel, Web surfing, and e-mail services through consumer televisions.
