Thomson Grass Valley to show low-cost master control

At NAB2004 Thomson will introduce its Grass Valley Maestro master control product line, which enables users to combine embedded branding and full-featured master control capabilities with traditional signal processing components; all in the same frame.

The Maestro is based on Thomson Grass Valley's Kameleon media processing system frame. It employs a modular design to enable customers to pick features that serve their needs and expand in the future. It incorporates processing modules from existing Grass Valley master control, modular and production switcher products. It also supports both standard- and high-definition production.

The Maestro branding engine module enables users to add station/channel identifications and logos — with full animation and audio mixing capabilities — to any SD or HD program stream. The system can also be used in tandem with an existing master control switcher, such as the Grass Valley M-2100 system, to provide additional channel-branding functionality.

The Maestro master control module features A/B mixing of multiple program feeds, automated branding with flexible positioning of up to four external or internal key layers, pre-programmed digital video effects, support for up to eight channels of audio and support of the M-2100 automation protocol. It also offers a highly customizable user interface and various modular sub-panels that simplify its master control multichannel function.

A customizable control panel is also available, which is ideal for branding, intervention and full-scale master control applications.
