Thomson introduces management, control system for DTV content, service providers
Thomson has introduced its next-generation Grass Valley brand Extensible Management System, the XMS 3500, which enables users to deliver more SD and HD channels to their customers.
The Grass Valley XMS 3500 system provides software for controlling and monitoring an entire digital television system. It lets operators configure, control and monitor the creation of SD and HD services in a digital broadcast center; add local content and services in local headends; and manage distribution networks to the end user.
The system consists of two core elements: the XMS integrated management server software package, which includes server and client applications; and an MPEG channel controller (MCC) mediation device.
The system manages more than 50 types of Grass Valley transmission devices. It also fully supports conditional access (CA) systems and the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) for remote monitoring and control.
