Without public fanfare, Time Warner's News 8 in Austin, TX, has launched a 24-hour local sports headline service. On Digital Channel 408, the new service is airing previews for area high schools and universities, including the University of Texas, Texas State and Texas A&M.
A spokesman said the quiet launch was made to give the channel time to work out technical glitches. By September, it's set to evolve into a sports news service.
