T-Mobile, Vodafone, Telefónica O2 subsidiary to launch Czech Republic mobile TV operations
It’s still not quite there yet, but a soon-to-be subsidiary of the Association of Mobile Network Operators is intent on getting there — “there” being a license for T-Mobile, Vodafone and Telefónica O2 to operate a multimedia network in which each operator would provide its own content to customers through separate deals with TV stations.
Just exactly when the Czech Telecommunications Office (CTU) will put out a tender for mobile TV license applications is still to be announced, but it will happen as soon as the planned digital TV broadcasting launch, somewhere about the third quarter of this year, according to CTU Chairman Pavel Dvorak.
And the fact that the aforementioned Czech mobile operators are “completing documents to establish a subsidiary to be able to apply for a license to operate a broadcasting network," according to T-Mobile’s Michal Nemec, makes it look like this mobile TV development may happen very soon, maybe even before year’s end. T-Mobile Czech Republic began DVB-H trials in Prague in 2007.
