Toledo MSO Picks Up WTOL Multicast
Buckeye Cable Systems is now carrying a multicast feed from local broadcast station WTOL, according to the station's Web site. WTOL 11 24/7 Weather will debut on Buckeye's digital tier on Channel 111 around Feb. 1. The feed features live weather radar, extended forecasts, information on weather that may affect outdoor activities (like fishing) and the all-important "L-bar" display wrap.
The system relies on the same technology used to stream WTOL's localized weather no the Internet. According to the station, this Microcast technology allows "neighborhood-level" weather reporting, down to a specific latitude and longitude. The weathercast will rotate every 15 minutes.
