TSL designs new playout system for Orbit
Television Systems Limited (TSL) has won a contract from Italy-based multi-channel satellite platform operator Orbit for both systems integration and product supply.
Orbit, which beams its services via satellite to North Africa and across the Middle East, has contracted the UK-based independent broadcast systems integrator and manufacturer to expand the range and style of channels that it offers.
Under the terms of the deal, TSL will design and integrate a new playout system using its own products and those supplied by Orbit. TSL audio monitoring units and UMDs will form part of the solution alongside equipment from Chyron, Miranda, Snell & Wilcox, Tektronix, Harris and SeaChange.
Orbit will launch 12 pay-per-view channels next year as part of its new DVB service. The service provider will also add six subscription channels via the new playout platform. The five subscriptions will be: Music Now, Film World, Cine TV, Al Fann and History.
The automation system will control all the operations including program ingest from VTR, caching from LMS or Flexicart to server, playout from the server, master control and effects, closed caption subtitling, voice-over and multiple languages. Orbit has previously appointed TSL for work on projects in Rome.
