Turner Broadcasting to Install EMC Data Management
Turner Broadcasting System Inc. plans to use EMC's AVALONidm, an intelligent data management system, to manage short- and long-form material across multiple data storage systems for its entertainment networks. TBS also acquired multiple terabytes of EMC's CLARiiON storage system.
AVALONidm is designed to manage the complex data workflow requirements of broadcast applications. It is a policy-driven data storage management solution that allows broadcasters to model data workflow according to operational needs. It can manage data across multiple storage technologies, whether on high-performance storage systems for high availability or cost-effective storage for deep archive material. AVALONidm features can facilitate time-critical data requests, automatic data replication and error reporting.
The system will be integrated into Turner's Network Operations unit, located at TBS' Atlanta facility. A staff of more than 400 will manage 19 network feeds originating from the facility. AVALONidm will interface with automation from Pro-Bel Systems and video servers from Pinnacle Systems.
