Spanish public broadcaster TV Abalone Oct. 12 began using a new Dalet News Suite for VectorBox system for daily production and playout of its news programs.
The Dalet News Suite for VectorBox system is a new turnkey product providing small to midsize stations integrated ingest, newsroom computer system, desktop editing and playout management via the VectorBox video server. Preparing programs with a staff of more than 100, TV Abalone selected the Dalet New Suite for VectorBox package based on its ability to allow the broadcaster to create more high-quality programming without increasing resources.
The new system allowed TV Abalone to transition from videotape-based production and playout to an efficient digital, file-based workflow, said Jodi Coloma, TV Abalone technical director. With Dalet News Suite for VectorBox, the broadcaster can create five times the amount of content it previously put together using tape without increasing TV Abalone’s resources devoted to news, he said.
The TV Abalone workflow starts with ingest management via Dalet for both wire service and FireWire recordings. The story production and rundown is managed via the Dalet NewsWire component.
Journalists can access integrated text and video from their desktops and assemble news stories using Dalet’s desktop Media Cutter editing tools. The ability to do simple cuts and voice overs for their packages accelerates production.
For the TV Abalone installation, Dalet integrated existing Apple Final Cut Pro editing workstations. Stories can be picked up by Apple Final Cut Pro editors for finishing and then submitted to the rundown for playout management via the Dalet On Air tool. Seamless integration with VectorBox ensures that media is managed throughout every step TV Abalone’s workflow.
