TV Magic Upgrades Columbia College Hollywood for HD
Broadcast systems integrator TV Magic has completed the digital upgrade of the control room and television studio at Columbia College Hollywood, an accredited liberal arts college that has offered degrees in film and TV production for more than five decades.
San Diego-based TV Magic worked with Darren Doerschel, the college’s digital media consultant, to design and perform a complete rebuild of the studio facilities, installing HD-ready systems that mirror those at professional broadcast stations.
Students are now using JVC ProHD cameras that can be switched between SD and HD acquisition. Other installed gear include:
- Ross Synergy switcher
- JVC DR-HD 100-80 portable DTE recorder
- 15-, 17- and 19-inch JVC CRT monitors
- Dual LCD monitors from Marshall
- Focus Enhancements media converter
- Compix LCG 5050R single channel character generator
- Audiocom intercom system
- Wohler AMP2-AMVU audio monitor
With the installation, CCH has added two new television production classes, allowing students to work within a digital workflow.
“All of the editing systems in our building are HD-ready, and the upgrade of our aging television studio equipment was the obvious next step in preparing for digital HD production,” said CCH Director of IT and Production Services Ron Reeves. “Darren helped us identify our workflow goals and our needs over the next five to ten years and connected us with TV Magic. The results have been fantastic.”
