ROCHESTER, N.Y.: Kodak is kyboshing its venerated color film, the company said today. Eastman Kodak will end production of Kodachrome after 74 years. The demand for camera film has nearly evaporated with the emergence of digital imaging. Fewer and fewer labs process film. Bloomberg reports that just one, Dwayne’s Photo in Parsons, Kans., processes Kodachrome. The film is expected to disappear from the market sometime this fall.
Shares of Eastman Kodak (NYSE: EK) have been trading between $2 and $2 for the last two months. Kodachrome accounts for less than 1 percent of the company’s camera film sales, it said.
