TVN Premieres ‘Event TV HD’ on PPV
Pay-per-view provider TVN Entertainment Corp. launched a new service last weekend (Dec. 6) called "Event TV HD," featuring many of its most popular male-oriented live events in HD—including boxing, wrestling and mixed martial arts. Content providers will include such venues as Showtime, HBO and WWE.
TVN said it expects the HD service to eventually offer up to four live events each month (plus repeats) that it will provide on a pay-per-view basis in 1080i (including 5.1 channel audio).
The first program on "Event TV HD" was the live broadcast of the Oscar de la Hoya-Manny Pacquiao boxing match from HBO.
In addition to providing PPV services to cable and DBS firms via eight VOD/PPV channels, TVN said it also packages about 8,300 hours of programming from every major Hollywood studio, as well as scores of other providers.
