TV-PC convergence revisited
At Comdex last week, Philips Electronics brought back the now tattered C-word: convergence. Philip’s connectivity group showed its Wireless Home AV Platform, a home entertainment product design that’s supposed to allow televisions and stereo systems to wirelessly access video and music stored on a personal computer.
Contending that lines between the PC and TV are blurring, Philips general manager Engelbert Van Pelt said his company is “taking baby steps towards a single ‘converged' device.’”
Philips’ new platform will be based on wireless home networking technology that uses the home PC as a media server for other devices. Products with partner companies that deploy the concept will be announced in January at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nev.
