TVT’s Bill Hayes Among SBE Honorees

TV Technology columnist Bill Hayes, the director of engineering and technology at Iowa Public Television since 1999, will be honored as 2007 Educator of the Year by the Society of Broadcast Engineers.

W.C. “Cris” Alexander will get the top SBE honor as 2007 Broadcast Engineer of the Year at the annual SBE meeting in Madison, Wis., in October.

Chief Engineer Daniel Slentz and WHIZ TV/DTV/FM/AM in Zanesville, Ohio, will receive the 2007 Technology Award.

An SBE member for 23 years, Alexander is director of engineering for Crawford Broadcasting, a builder of many radio stations and a longtime contributor to TV Technology sister publication Radio World. Alexander is a member of the national board of SBE and its certification committee and he is certification chair of Chapter 48 in Denver.

Hayes began his career in 1973. In addition to overseeing all technology projects at Iowa Public Television, Hayes helps organize the Iowa DTV Symposium, now in its 14th year, Oct. 7-9 in Des Moines.
