Two TV journalists killed in Pakistan become first newsmen fatalities of 2005

Two television journalists working in the South Waziristan tribal area of Pakistan have become the first newsmen to lose their lives in the line of duty this year, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists.

Gunmen killed Mir Nawab, a freelance cameraman for the Associated Press Television News, and a reporter for the Frontier Post newspaper, and Allah Noor, who was working for Peshawar-based Khyber TV.

They were returning by car from covering the surrender of a tribal militant in Sararogha when occupants of another vehicle overtook them and began firing with AK-47 rifles. Two other reporters were injured in the attack.
