Two local-television photojournalists, one from Omaha, NE, the other from College Station, TX, died last week while covering stories for their stations.
In Omaha, Jeff Frolio, 45, died June 10 at Creighton University Medical Center after being struck by a vehicle while crossing the street. Frolio, a photojournalist for KETV, was shooting footage for a report on a memorial set up near an intersection where two teens had died last month. After running out of tape, Frolio stepped into the street to return to his vehicle to retrieve a new supply when he was struck. Frolio had worked for KETV for 20 years.
On June 8, Matt Moore, 23, was electrocuted when the ENG vehicle mast he was raising came into contact with power lines. Moore, a cameraman with KBTX-TV in College Station, TX, was knocked unconscious and died later.
Moore was on assignment covering an oil-well fire with a KBTX reporter and two interns, none of whom were injured.
The incident occurred near the football stadium at Hearne High School where Moore and the news crew were preparing for a live shot. A small fire ignited near the station’s news van.
