On April 10 Universal Pictures will launch a new service that will sell digital downloads of feature films coupled with a DVD copy.
Customers will be able to download two digital copies of selected movies — one for a computer and one for a portable device — and receive a DVD in the mail. The downloads are for users to own and have no expiration date. This year's "King Kong" remake will be among the initial collection of 35 films to be offered at launch time.
Universal Pictures is part of General Electric's NBC Universal unit, which includes the NBC Television Network. The service will also be available through America Online.
