U.S. cable operators to test Microsoft TV interactive service

published Comcast Cable and Time Warner Cable, two of the top U.S. cable operators, have agreed to separately test Microsoft TV’s Foundation Edition interactive software in order to offer digital cable subscribers new digital TV services like an Interactive Program Guide (IPG). Both trials will take place in the Seattle, Wa., area beginning this fall using Motorola DCT2000 set-top boxes.
Time Warner Cable plans to perform a trial of the Microsoft TV IPG software in its Beaumont, Tex., system, which passes approximately 100,000 subscribers in the area.
