U.S., Western European movie downloads to increase, report says
The distribution of movies via download in the United States and Western Europe will generate $1.3 billion in 2011, according to a new report from Screen Digest.
The report, “Online Movie Strategies: Competitive Review and Market Outlook,” cautions, however, that the lack of a unified path toward digital distribution will hamper development of the market and confuse consumers.
The report projects that $720 million will be generated in the United States and $572 million in Western Europe. Movie studios and content owners will receive $935 million with the rest distributed between service and solution providers, according to the report.
According to Screen Digest, the online digital movies segment will constitute 3 percent of all movie/home entertainment revenues in the United States and Western Europe by 2011.
