Verizon Launches Hi-Def VOD
Verizon is now offering high-definition video on demand in some of its FiOS TV markets.
HD VOD is now available over FiOS TV systems in Richmond and Virginia Beach, Va., Tampa, Fla., Fort Wayne, Ind., and Pittsburgh. HD VOD will be rolled out in the near future in the Washington, D.C., metro area, Massachusetts and Rhode Island, and to the rest of Verizon’s FiOS TV markets next year.
Currently the service offers approximately 75 titles of a mix of free programs and movies that cost $5.99 to view. Verizon, which recently announced that it expected to have more than 150 HD channels by the end of 2008, said it would increase its HD VOD offerings to more than 1,000 in the same time period. The FiOS TV VOD library currently has more than 10,000 titles overall.
Verizon has 717,000 FiOS TV customers in 12 states.
