Viacom and IBM Partner to Work on Digital Entertainment Services
IBM and Viacom Inc. have begun a technology and consulting initiative that intends to lay a foundation for future digital entertainment services and enhance the performance of Viacom's technology infrastructure. The deal covers Viacom U.S. operations in 11 locations in four states.
Viacom will establish a cross-enterprise computing platform capable of supporting digital media and on-demand services. IBM will provide business and IT consultants with expertise in the media and entertainment industries to help Viacom improve its computing infrastructure and develop new initiatives in areas such as digital management of entertainment content, wireless content delivery and computer services delivered on-demand. The consultants will also explore areas where the two companies can collaborate in the future.
Viacom holdings include MTV Networks, Showtime Networks, Paramount, CBS and Viacom Corporate.
